About $15,000 are given away by the US government each year as government grants for housing. Many first time buyers can avail these grants to pay for the house. A loan is a difficult affair as it has to be returned and warrants a clear credit history also. But grant money does not have to be paid back and can be used to own payment funds, pay off closing fees and even the attorney’s fees. The money is entirely tax free and interest free but the only stipulation is that it has to be used for the purpose that was given.

There are many hidden costs while buying a house like extra closing costs, documentation fees and other similar expenses. The government grants for housing helps in paying them off. Although these grants were there since a long time, people were not aware of them till now. There is no credit check or income verification required while applying for these grants. But since there are many people waiting to get these grants, the application should be carefully worded and should be submitted well before the due date. In case there is anything wrong with the form, it can be returned and resubmitted within the required time.

If you are above the age of 18 and a tax-paying citizen of the US, you can apply for the government grants for housing on the Internet. You need to know your requirements and also find out if you are eligible for the grant. You have to search for the particular grants for which you fulfill the specifications. There are two main sites of the government which give all information about the grants. They are grants.gov and cfda.gov. These sites will also guide you to fill in the application forms without leaving any chances of rejection.
