Grants for Minorities – Promoting Equality
In order to promote equality (in all aspects) amongst the people residing in the US, the government and foundations across the US offer several grants for minorities. In fact one can say that there are more government grants programs for minorities than for the majority of citizens in the U.S. These grants are specifically designed for minority population to cater to the financial needs of people coming from different fields of work, different businesses and research groups. For instance, free money in the form of grants is made available to minorities like African Americans, Native Americans and Hispanics who are the predominant minorities in the nation.
Some of the well-known grants for minorities are enumerated below:
1. One of the major chunks of the minority grants programs is allocated for the education sector. Students belonging to minority community can either apply for the Federal Student Aid also known as the FAFSA or to its minority specific grants which is over and above the normal grants. The amount received is not required to be repaid.
2. There are also grants that are specifically available to minority population for starting new businesses. Financial support is offered to the minority sections that have a business plan falling within the approved business of the state organization which is funding the business.
3. Grants for minorities programs also include financial aid offered for buying houses at subsidized rate. It is made available to low income citizens of the minority community. This is especially for those who reside in high risks areas which are plagued with crimes and other social evils.
4. There is another minority grant awarded by the government to help under privileged children to excel academically. Money is offered in form of vouchers to financially poor families who do not have money for the education of their children. These money vouchers are redeemable at the private or public school.
There are several other grants for minorities that are awarded by the Federal government and the state to help minority section. The main goal is to help minority groups become financially and economically independent.
